MY BEAUTY IS FOR MY HUSBAND TO SEE, NOT THE WORLD!!!!!!
Struggling to decide whether it's safe or not to upload pictures of their children on social networking websites such as Facebook, My space etc. The risks may not be as severe as first thought, suggests research, But that doesn't mean posting pictures of your children is, especially as profile picture is entirely SAFE.
It is no longer surprising, when after performing a search, you clic...k on a friends name and what immediately pops up is a jolly seven year old kid or a crawling baby with a cute smile uploaded as a profile picture. Here, laid bare for everyone to see is a rapidly growing tendancy of escapism, self-effacement, misrepresentation and some could say irresponsibility too.
Many parents tend to take the decision lightly and without consideration of unexpected risks that could follow after such a ruch decision. They seem to have forgotten that Facebook is a utility that connects people with friends, family & colleagues and that if anyone who displays a photo of a kid as their profile picture, they are giving out false portrayal that could enormously be taken advantage of.
What are the risks?
There are five main risks you expose a kid to as soon as
you upload their pix as on your profile page.
1. Strangers passing photo of the kid as their own.
It only takes a click for a stranger to copy the child's photo and save them on their the Hard Drive Disk. Using this method, stranges could use picture of your kid and pass them as their own.
2. Awkward Relatives/Friends.
There is always the possibilty of an awkward friend or relative causing an upset by misusing the picture on other places.
3. Websites using the picture without consent.
A classic example is of an author of "single mom seeking" who came accross a website that used a picture of her daughter for advertisement in California.
4. Paper dolls.
Is when picture of kids, used by other mostly foreign teenage girls after being imported from photo-sharing websites, then labelling them with sexy ratings according to their quality of work.
5.Peodophiles.
This is the foremost dangerous risk. Online social networking sites are hunting ground for perverts. An undercover pervert will try to forge friendship in order to try to lure the kid on the profile. They will try to obtain pictures for photoshopping & swapping. Very chilling.
While privacy settings could be modified to allow only selected users to have access to the private pictures, However it is unwise and irresponsible to post a kid's picture on anyone's profile. Or else, you are involuntarily helping to create a perfect hunting ground for some sub-species of peodophiles who like their victims very young.
Lets do our utmost to protect the children from the long & dangerous tentacles of the net. This Article was based solely on children's pics but then again this also applies when we upload our own pics(Brothers And Sisters). Even though this article points out the possible misuse of the uploaded pictures we should not make this our main reason to remove our pics but rather to remove our pics for the sake of Allah and for his pleasure, Inshaa Allah. We obey the Creator not the Creation.JazakAllahu Khairun for everone that have removed such Pictures and those that will be removing it soon after.
